A Jurisdictional Review of Arrest Rates for Drug Offences by Drug Type

In this jurisdictional scan, drug arrests rates between 2000 to 2019 were reviewed for various drug offences (including cannabis, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, methylenedioxyamphetamine [ecstasy], opioids, and other controlled substances). The review examined trends in drug offences in Canada overall, as well as in each of its provinces and territories. The overarching purpose of the jurisdictional scan was to provide the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety with a greater understanding of drug-related crime trends across Canada and to explore whether drug-related crime was a potential factor driving Saskatchewan’s custody population growth.
